Changes in Cerebrovascular Prostaglandins and Thromboxane as a Function of Systemic Blood Pressure Cerebral Blood Flow
Cerebrovascular concentrations of prostaglandin E (PGE), prostaglandin F2, (PGF2.), 6ketoprostaglandin F,a (6-keto-PGFma), and thromboxane B2 (TXB2) were determined over a blood pressure range of 17-117 mm Hg (induced by inflation of balloon-tipped catheters placed in the thoracic descending aorta and at the aortic root) in eight newborn piglets to assess the role of prostanoids in cerebral blo...
متن کاملWhole blood viscosity and cerebral blood flow.
BLOOD has anomalous rheological properties, particularly in certain disease states. It may therefore be necessary to consider these properties when attempting to assess and perhaps to improve the state of a patient's cerebral circulation. So what evidence is there that cerebral blood flow (CBF) is affected by viscosity? Before attempting to answer this question, one should be aware of what infl...
متن کاملErgotamine and cerebral blood flow.
We measured the cerebral blood flow (CBF) of 16 patients by the xenon-133 intracarotid method before and after the intramuscular injection of ergotamine tartrate. The regional and hemispheric CBF was unaltered, even in 3 migraneurs in who ergotamine relieved the headache. Ergotamine tartrate in therapeutic doses has no effect on the cerebral circulation.
متن کاملHyperventilation and cerebral blood flow.
Hyperventilation and Cerebral Blood Flow • Hypocapnic-hyperventilation has a profound, but probably temporary, effect on CBF, producing approximately a 2% decline in CBF for each 1 torr decline in Pcov Th' effect appears to be mediated through changes in perivascular pH of the cerebral resistance vessels acting directly on the vessel wall. At low PC0;( the vasoconstrictor effect of short-term h...
متن کاملCerebral Blood Flow Regulation
Rapid vascular resistance adjustments in the brain and in the circle of Willis have been continuously measured and enhanced by signal averaging methods. Naftidrofuryl, a drug chemically similar to local anesthetics and to beta adrenergic blocking agents, increases local CBF by reducing resistance in brain and in extracerebral supply arteries. It has also been reported to affect brain metabolism...
